Ok, so today was the last day at the outdoor pool here in Bozeman. (Yes, according to them, summer is over - which is horrible!!) They empty the pool so that when it snows and freezes (which could happen in a week or two - AHG!!), the pool doesn't crack and get damaged. So the last hour and a half of the "summer", they invite dogs to come take free reign at Bogart Pool. I'm going to show all the dogs all week long.. here's a start.. a teaser.. a good laugh to begin the fun!!

The color comes from the bacteria that grows here in these most unique conditions, like no where else in the world.

My friend took this picture two weeks ago at the beginning of the hail storm that threw down golf balls on all our windows, lawns, houses and cars. I was lucky to be out of town, so my car does not have dents like most others. And I was lucky that my house windows did not get hit and broken like my neighbors.

Hiking with friends in Bear Trap canyon on Saturday led us along the Madison River. Famous for fly fishing.. we saw many folks out enjoying the sun and practicing their "catch and release".

On the city streets, the term hold-up usually refers to someone stopping you in your tracks with a gun to steal all that they might want from you right then and there. I was held-up by this river crossing. The only thing it took from me was the chance to see an amazing waterfall further down the trail, and the journey onward. But it dive give back to me the time to sit and stare and listen to this loud powering "creek". I'll come back later after the run-off dies down and get further down the trail. For now, nature forces patience.

This picture was my favorite from the whole day. It was profound in speaking to how life sometimes feels like the burnt bark on this tree. We have to peel the old burnt dead crust to let the new growth come forward, full of life.

Hiking through this forest was amazing. It was so strikingly beautiful, especially because the lighting kept changing as the clouds passed over. The forest fire happened about two years ago, if I remember correctly, during a dramatic and hot smoke-filled August. Yesterday was my first time back to this trail since the burn.

Locally, we call yellowstone, "Jelly Stone" because the heat coming up from the middle of the earth is melting the rock and stone around here. It also creates pools of bacteria nowhere else seen on earth and heat vents spew steam up from down below (seen in the distance). Yellowstone National Park is only 1 and a half hours drive south of Bozeman.

Two days OLD with a little pink nose and looking for her mama!! These little heifers have a big future of milk production in front of them. The milk from the Gallatin Valley feeds Montana, Idaho, Washington, Colorado and Wyoming!

This pretty much sums up how I felt taking pictures outside today at my friend's dairy farm, located in Amsterdam, Montana, 30 min drive through the farm lands from Bozeman. The wind chill made the air temp around 20 deg. F. Didn't work so hot for the irrigation lines.

Today, I went to visit a friend whose family has milked cows in the Gallatin Valley since 1894. They are a part of a strong dutch community that exists here, famous for potato farming and dairy farming. This sign welcomes you to the break room where grandma brings homemade baked goods for the workers every day at 10 AM.
